Can anyone tell me about Dr Stephen Stahal

Posted by Mandy on October 4, 2002, at 14:59:45

I have heard that Dr Stahal is psychoparm "guru" and would like other people's opinion. I have had a hard time getting stable with my bipolar and he will see me for a consult at the tune of $350. Does anyone know him well enough to tell me if he would have new info and guidance that is worth that much money.

I don't know Dr. Stahl, but I have read some things that he has written (I assume that we're talking about the same person). He is well-informed on all of the drugs in use in psychiatry practice. He regularly publishes articles in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry and is generally well regarded. You would be hard pressed to find a psychiatrist as well as informed as Dr. Stahl, so you would probably be getting your money's worth.

Where does he live & work? I'm currently in the market for an extremely good doctor for my wife. Her previous one passed away. 350 for a genius? That's cheap. I'm paying 200 for someone who can't even remember when the next appointment is.

He has a practice In San Diego area and was listed among top psychiatrists in the area. He is also on staff at UCSD. The problem is he will only do one consult and possible a followup and then person must have their own psychiatrist. But I am thinking it is probably worth it if he could suggest something to stabilize me and give me energy. Good luck with your search

If he ever moves to Manhattan, please let me know. His rates will probably go to 500/hr.
