Hi everybody
Anyone out there only used remeron for occasional insomnia. I'm finding the 150 mg Wellbutrin SR twice a day works OK for my ADD and depression.
However, I'm one of those people that wake to the slightest "anything" and since kids and cats it usually happens at least two to three times a week. I would prefer not to medicate the good days. And I have lots of remeron left... Remeron gave me such good sleep, I kind of got to wondering if anyone else had tried to use it for occasional insomnia and what results they got. Unfortunately when I use anything on serotonin chronically, I get myoclonus - so I can't use the remeron every day. There is a lot of talk about Ambien. If you take it at 3am in the morning - would it help you get back to sleep till 7am???Thanks

when i tried to take remeron occasionally i found that i was overly tired all day when i did take it. when i took it every night i seemed to get used to it and the sleepiness didn't last all day. i am now taking sonata, which knocks me out for four hours pretty deeply. i can still sleep all night, but after the four hours i wake up occasionally, so i sleep much lighter after the hour hours are up. remeron was a deeper sleep in general. i don't know about ambien. good luck!

Hi Madison88
Thanks for sharing your experience. One of the drawbacks beside the myoclonus of the remeron was both the weight gain and constipation. Did sonata cause either of those side effects for you. Why did you end up stopping the remeron???
Thanks

i haven't noticed any side effects on sonata. of course, it is hard to tell when you are on multiple meds. i stopped remeron b/c i didn't want 8-10 full hours of sleep. i am in school and have things to get done.

I take Remeron only when im having a bad panic or anxiety attack and cant sleep. I take the smallest piece possible. Out of a 15mg pill... i take maybe 1mg. I mean I break a piece of a chip of the pill and 10 minutes later my anxiety is GONE! And i peacefully fall asleep. ONE 15mg Remeron (SolTab) can last me a month. I love Remeron. I dont know what i would do w/o it. There is no way in hell i could sleep. If im having anxiety at 3in the afternoon... i take remeron and pass out a couple hours and wake up feeling great. Yah... a litle drowsy and hungry. BIG DEAL!! Would you rather feel like shit all day...NOT sleep...UGH. I take remeron like 2x's a week, especially after i go out drinking. I cant sleep after i drink... i get Horrific panic attacks... im going to start a forum about that now.

Wow, you are increadibly sensitive to remeron. I haven't yet tried the smaller doses, even the 7.5 mg. dose. Doesn't sound, though, that you use it for depression - just panic attacks and sleep. I find 15 mg great for sleep but I need to increase it to feel its antidepressent dose. If I could solve the problem of the myoclonus that I get at higher doses I would love to keep it as both my antidepressent and my sleep med. Take care everybody...

> >>>>>>>>>>What is the myoclonus problem?>>I'm experiencing night myoclonus, which like a whole body jerking - kind of like that feeling when you are just going to sleep and sometimes your body will jerk. Except this just goes on and on. It often doesn't resolve itself and I end up having to take some valerian. Because valerian uses that cytochrome cyp450 pathway in the liver it is contraindicated for chronic use with a med that also uses that pathway. Found out this from a pharmacist. He checked it out and even printed me out the article on it.
Thanks

Mobe--- "If I could solve the problem of the myoclonus that I get at higher doses I would love to keep it as both my antidepressent and my sleep med."
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Geez...that sounds like a terrible side effect.........I was taking Remeron (low doses for terrible insomnia)....it worked great for that. Then, my dr. increased it (to 30 & 45 mg) and I HATED it---too much adrenaline from the increased norepinephrine levels. Now, once again, I'm just taking the Remeron for sleep (7.5 mg) it works great for that (Zoloft is my anti-dep)...you may still want to keep the Remeron and just use it, on lower doses, for sleep.
This is the end of the thread.
