Hi!
Just a short question, because I couldn't find information on the web.
I know above 150 mg Norepherine Reuptake inhibition is added to the Serotonergic RI."At what Dosage Dopamine comes in to play ? 300 mg?"
thanks in advice,
rod

Most of what I've read about Effexor describes the dopaminergic action as being very weak (compared to its actions on NE and serotonin). I'm guessing that the effects, even in larger doses, wouldn't be a real consideration in using it.

I read the abstract of a study, indicating that the noradrenaline reuptake inhibition due to venlafaxine starts at dosages 225 - 300 mg/day.So, I guess it would take something like several thousands of miligrams of venlafaxine to achieve dopamine reuptake inhibition....

> This observation suggests that, at doses around 200 mg/day, venlafaxine begins to block the norepinephrine uptake pump sufficiently to produce this effect.(increased blood pressure)
> The adverse effect profile of venlafaxine at a dose of 75 mg/day is comparable to that of an SSRIyes, I know its dopaminergic action is very weak, but as far as i can remember, a person posted something like this long time ago: "I am so glad my sexual dysfunktion on Effexor went away now on 350 mg. Thats the dosage when dopamine comes into play my doktor told me."
But I dont take peoples postings too serious, maybe this persons doktor was wrong.
Anyway, even if it is weak, it was worth mentioning on www.RxList.com

I think the dopamine effect is minimal at doses you would usualy take. Usual being 75 mg to 300 mg per day. I was taking 225 mg XR once a day and I don't think I got any dopamine effect. The effect was Norepinephrine, it was very activating, and made me a panicky, especially in combo with Wellbutrin SR. For increase of dopamine you might try l-dopa containing Mucuna Puriens (or Velvet Bean, Cowitch plant, or ayurvedic Kapikachu). I am taking that now after getting off of Effexor XR and Wellbutrin SR.

thank you all, you really convinced me to disregard the dopamine effect of Effexor.

i got tremors from effexor ....
my doc said it actually has a weak blocking action on dopamine receptors ... my max dose was 300 mg

I had tremors too, and severe myoclonus (muscle spasms) and hyperreflexia when my eyes were closed and/or trying to sleep, or emotionally upset. No fun. I was also taking Wellbutin SR with the Effexor XR so I guessed it was the norepinephrine. I guess it could have been the dopamine, but those side effects have gone away as I stopped taking them. I am taking a herb with l-dopa (velvet bean) and don't have those tremors. Hmmm...

Do you have any side effects due to l-dopa? And are you taking it with carbidopa or alone ?cem
