Well, I took my first dose of Lithium today (300 mg 3x per day) and I feel energized! Could the lithium have an effect with the first dose or is it just a placebo-reaction? I really have my hopes up for it because it works for my Dad and Sister, who are also Bipolar. By the way, I also take Zyprexa 15 mg at bedtime and Klonopin 1 mg every 4 hours.
Thanks in advance for your advice!!!

I had good results mood wise but horrible side effects. It was pretty harsh on my stomach so I was throwing up all the time and prescribed domperidone for the nausea. But I think it was more of a reaction with the other meds I was on with it. I also took wellbutrin and tarazadone as well as clonazepan. I only took it for 2 months however. Hope you feel good and that it is not a placebo! Good luck!

There have been others here posting about an "energizing" effect of lithium (hi Chloe!). The first time I was prescribed lithium (300mg 3x daily) back in 1979, I was told to take all 900mg at once in the middle of the day. When I did, I definitely had a simultaneous energizing and dazed feeling. It could be placebo effect, but I think it is more than that.Mitch

Hi there. I found when I first took lithium, I felt a sort of high, but I put this down to the hope that I was doing something positive about my condition. The high passed but was replaced by a calm and a rationalising of my thoughts, like my mind would stay on topic long enough to actually consider ideas, not just flit over them.
I am just about to restart lithium myself. Good luck!

When I was on an AD and increased my lithium dose from 900 to 1200, I noticed a big increase in my sociability. I thought it was just the AD+Li relieving my depression. Unfortunately the effect only lasted a couple of days?

I'm sure your dr. knows better, but
I would have found the li dose on the high
side (unless just starting) and an AD added
to it a bit too much polypharmacy. What are you on now?

Hi Debbie!
Thanks for asking! I think that I am feeling a slight lifting of my depression, and thankfully I am not having any of the side-effects (other than frequent thirst & urination, which is not bad).
How are you feeling? Any better yet? Please let me know--we can be "Lithium Buddies"!!
Take care,
Dane
