Why Effexor and Remeron Poop

Posted by linkadge on July 14, 2002, at 14:41:19

This is just my theory as to why these
meds seem to poop more often then others.

Effexor and Remeron, affect norepenephrine
as well as seritonin. To my understanding
seritonin is the one that really affects the
core of depression, the presistantly sad
mood. When you initially start on Remeron
or Effexor, the norepinephrine makes you more
physically active, you are out walking more
and other stuff, this activity in the mind
can tend to take ones mind off the core mood
which may not have all the seritonin it needs.
On Effexor etc, you are less likely to be sitting
in a chair contemplating your mood. After a little while however, you stop and think about your mood and realize it is not where it could be and then you get depressed again. This sounds a little far fetched but consider this:

When I first tried Effexor, I was very active. I was so overjoyed by the fact that I had the energy and coordination to play the piano again. After impressing myself for a few weeks with my newfound ability I exhausted it and realized that my core mood was still low.

If you are on effexor or Remeron or any other than affects norepinephrine, stop and sit down, thing about how you really feel, you may need stronger seritonin activity.

In my oppinion they are not pooping it is your mind that is changing gears.

Why does Wellbutrin take longer to poop out than these two drugs, I wonder. I'm sure that poop out can be explained in more than one way. Good theory to check out.

There is no poop-out!

When I asked my PDoc if he thinks it would be a good idea to increase buspar from 30 to 45 mg, as I am starting to sense some poopout, he first asked me what poopout is, and then he told me that medicines don't do that.

He says other things too that strike me kind of strange, sometimes. (He's assigned to me by the public health authority, and I don't think I can switch)

Why don't you tell him about this website?

Because he will probably be too busy or too apathetic to take a look?

I find you can get very good results from talking to the lecturers at the local psychiatric college. Find out what the curriculum is, take a look at the course material, present said "official version" to the local doc.

My feeling is a doc is not going to care much about a print out from a website, but if you actually bring in a copy of the way the top docs in town are teaching, it becomes somewhat harder to ignore - though not impossible ;)

Basically now you are saying "this is basic knowledge... what EVERY student who comes through psychiatric college knows... (and you don't know it?)"

And then if you are still ignored you could politely talk about how hard it must be in this field to always have to get your skills updated... and when your doc comments on whatever form of training he uses... you can ask the members of the local psychiatric college how much effort the average doc puts into updating his skills and see if you are seeing a half decent doc or not....

worst case scenario ;)

The way I solve it... I will be moving to a neighboring town (NOT because of this -- I got a very attractive lease) and will soon be assigned a new PDoc.

I wouldn't give him the URL to this site, as he would easily recognize me: moved from NYC to Stockholm, Buspar+Wellbutrin worked, now put on Remeron by a doc I think is a jerk... No, I wouldn't be comfortable posting here.

Once it is over with him, I'll write down the whole story. Hope the coming story will have a happier ending.

Wish me luck
