Has Anybody added Wellbutrin to Prozac? Success?

Posted by joy on July 12, 2002, at 8:12:47

I am on 20 mgs of Prozac. I used to be on a higher dose. I don't think it helps that much, though the first few days I felt a little better. I have asthma and am not strong physically. Does anybody know if adding a little Wellbutrin may help me? Any suggestions? Thanks.

I think that it definitely could help. It's a combination that is used a lot. But I'm curious why your Prozac dose was lowered. Usually if people are not getting enough help, raising the dosage can help a lot. Did you lower the dose because of side effects?

Joy,

While I haven't used Wellbutrin with Prozac, I have with both Paxil and later Zoloft (both in the same class as Prozac). Initially this was done to counter the feeling of being tired on Paxil, which to a degree it helped. The better result was that it helped my depression even further.

I don't know if Prozac alone is stimulating to you or not, but keep in mind most people find Wellbutrin to be. In my case I loved the effect, but for some it can take a little getting used to.
I don't know how your asthma would come into play with Wellbutrin's very slight seizure risk. However, if your doctor doesn't think it's a problem, based on my personal experience I would recommend the combination. I found it effective.
Hope that helps a little.

Kelly

Bill,
I was off Prozac about 3 or 4 months. Side effects were not too bad, but sexual and joint pain. I was on 60 mgs. I am now on 20 mgs, but am thinking I don't think it helps that much. I may just stop it altogether. I spoke with my doc today. I wondered about Wellbutrin. I have COPD, so I have to be a bit careful, and I take enough meds now. Thanks.
