I am currently taking 150 mg of effexor and have been for 6 months or so - the problem is I need to get off this med but cannot the withdrawal is so bad. If I miss even one dose it is like I never took the med - shaeks, crushing zapping headaches, eye pain, nausea etc. I have read here and heard from others that taking prozac can help with the withdrawal symptoms. Since I am wanting to switch to prozac anyway I am liking this idea but I have 3 questions:
1. Has anyone ever had any experience where this has worked.
2. Is using liquid prozac better because it gets into your system faster?
3. What is the protocol for this do I stop effexor all at once one day and then start the prozac the next or do I take the prozac as I wean off the effexor.
Any information is desperately needed I need to go to my doc armed with information tomorrow.

i have started and stopped effexor about 100 times. every time stopping cold turkey. you will have about 5 really bad days. i always got the vertigo side of things and sweats at day 2. its better to stop the effexor first because there is always the possiblity of serotonin syndrome combining 2 ssri's.
if u have any valium of librium it really helps ut with the withdrawls.
or go to the dr. tommorrow and ask for a starter kit and take a week coming down off the effexor and when you get to 37.5 start the Prozac.

... i felt horrible but my doc had me take some clonazepam and i'd say my symptoms were 90% gone! :)
