Our 15 year old son has recently been diagnosed with Schzoid PD. Research and information is very sketchy. We are looking for someone who had first hand information and has experience in dealing with such cases. We, as parents, are in the dark as to what to expect for the future. Help!!!!
Our son seems to have drifted away during the last couple of years....very much a loner and prefers it that way. You would think he is depressed but he says he is not and he is pretty much just "perfectly happy in his world of aloneless". He is not at all affected by what others may or may not think of him. I have read the list of the symptoms of Schzoid PD and he fits all of them to a "T".
Thanks for any inputsMom and Dad

I have had depression and I also have been diagnosed schizo personality disorder- but I do not avoid people I like some type of men but I rarely can find a proper friend. I like staying alone -have no contact with girls ( sex) and I am 27 years old.
This is strange as I am not satisfied with my life and do not feel excitement from this and it makes me depressed however i am doing well now on Zoloft + Zyprexa. I spent almost half a year in psycho hospital so it is very long time but I was badly diagnosed and that is the reason.I hope you will get more info about it. I think psychotherapy is needed in such cases- I was advised to try it.

My ex-husband was dxed as Schzoid (among other things) and when he once took Prozac for a short time, he came out of his shell, noticed the colors. . I should think any sort of "outgoing" meds would help, I think their brains are quite lacking in the ability to make positive, cheerful chemicals. . He went right off Prozac, and reverted. I divorced him. Sooo gloomy.Zo

For what it's worth, I'd seek a second opinion regarding your son's condition. The use of a "personality disorder" seems inappropriate in the case of a 15 year-old. Adolescence is a tough time as it is; throw in a mood disorder or a tendancy toward some "personality style," and being a teenager can be downright miserable.
The human brain hasn't even completely wired itself by that age. While I think you should respect who your son "is," (or "is becoming") there is a difference between being creatively introverted and morbidly withdrawn or anti-social. Seek another opinion.
My best,
Darby
