zoloft and celexa together?

Posted by hildi on July 2, 2002, at 16:39:51

Has anyone used a combination of zoloft and celexa together? If so, how has it worked for you? I am thinking of trying low doses of both,at least until the celexa I just switched over to (from zoloft) starts to work.
Anyone tried this or is using both?

How long does celexa take to start working?

can anyone tell me how long it takes for this med to kick in? It's been a few weeks now and it felt like it was starting to work, but that vanished and now I feel nothing good at all from it. Only more depression.

Hildi,

I asked my pdoc about that very situation, except I was already taking Paxil & Celexa together. I actually found benefit from taking a low dose of each or alternating the two...
Celexa alone made me very overfocused OCD - I reorganized my entire house in 1 week - and pretty much ignored my 3 babies while I doing it.
The Paxil eliminated my anxiety and my OCD to the point where I just about couldn't find my kitchen, much less get it clean or organize anything. On paxil alone I was just confused. but I found benefit to alternating the two.

HOWEVER - when I asked my pdoc told me it was not a good idea - I didn't press for why, but I think he was thinking serotonin syndrome.

> Hi- thanks for the response. I am really thinking of trying the two together, especially since the zoloft by itself isn't working that great (there really seems to be something different the second time around with some of these meds) and the celexa by itself is driving me crazy. When you alternated, did you do one med one day, the other med the next? When you took low doses the same day were you able to take them together, or did you have to space them apart ie: one med in am and one med in pm? Are you still doing this?
I am concerned about your pdoc not thinking this is a good idea. I have read other posts where people have combined meds/some SSRI's, but I haven't read of anyone combining the celexa and zoloft. I don't know . .
I am not sure what to do.
Thanks!
Hildi
