I've been taking Neuronting 100mg 3x/day for about 2.5 months now, and I'm starting to notice something strange. If I go out in the heat and sun and exert myself in any way, my skin gets blotchy on my arms, hands and legs. It's not really like a rash, just like suttle blotchiness that goes away when I cool back down inside. Also, my hands start feeling tight and "puffed up", like there's pressure in them. I've noticed this before, but it was more pronounced today when I went for a leisurely walk.
Does anyone know what this could be? Could it be peripheral edema? It doesn't seem likely to me at a dose of only 300mg/day, but who knows, what with my ultra-hypersensitivity to meds.

Yes, it's possible that what you're describing is peripheral edema but Neurontin (gabapentin), though often not mentioned as a precaution can make people taking it much more susceptible to reactions from sunlight. It might also be that or a combination of the two.

I'm not so sure about my peripheral edema theory anymore. I looked it up on the web, and all the sites with any reference to it say it is a swelling of the ankles and legs. Nowhere is a swelling of the arms or hands ever mentioned.

I think all anti convulsant drugs can make people more susceptible to heat exhaustion. That's off the top of my clouded head... Not sure where you live but its been really really hot out here -- I've barely wanted to leave the house. Make sure you are drinking extra fluids and make sure you are replacing the salt we sweat out when its hot (for example gatorade type drinks). (Of course, call a doc if concerned.)

Thanks for the warning.

*Something* about Neurontin. . stay out of sun? Do a search.
I took if for two years. .. there was a list, Neurontin-L, which was of great help. . so many different side effects, I'm pretty sure swelling was one of them.
