I just got called in for a job and they do drug test. I just started taking dextroamphet 5mg. for add. I just took one this morning. How long will it take for it to be out of my body and not show up in a drug test? I would really not like to tell them I take this, because this is a very important job and I'm afraid It might hurt my chances of getting it. I have to go in for a interview at 12:15 tomorrow. Thanks.

It takes 24-72 hours to test clean. Tell them if they ask. By law they cannot discriminate. Usually what will happen is if you test positive the testing lab will call and ask you not the employer.

I just went through the same exact thing. I take dexedrine spansules at a pretty hefty dose of 40 mg/day for ADD. I was really worried about my new employer refusing to give me the job because I'm on a controlled substance. When it showed up on my urine test, the doctor simply called me and asked me if I was on prescription medication. I gave him the prescription number from my bottle and he said that the fact that I was on this medication was confidential so no one at my new job would know I was on it. I don't think they are legally allowed to tell your employer the results of your test unless you show up with a drug and can't produce a doctor's prescription for it.

Thnks so much for your reply, I feel so much better. When you went in for the drug test did you tell the person giving the test you were on the medication? Also how do you like the spanuales? I was thinking about asking my doctor to switch me because to them because after about 4 hours I seem to have such a crash. Thanks again

Opal,
Please let us know how it went. I am definitely interested in knowing what the outcome for your situation is.
I'm looking for a new job myself and happen to be on Adderall.

Hi Opal,
I was expecting to fill out some kind of form before I did the drug test where I would fill out all the information on what type of medication I'm taking for what kind of ailment, etc. I even brought my prescription bottle along assuming that they would want to see it. They didn't do it that way though. They never asked anything, just took the sample and sent it to be analyzed. Then, when they found the amphetamine the doctor called me and was actually very nice about it. All he needed was the number from the prescription bottle. I have to admit that I think it would be a much easier process if they just got all of the information first. As far as the spansules, I've never been on the IR version but these are nice from the standpoint that they're subtle. You don't get a big hit from it when it kicks in and when it wears off, at least for me, it is so subtle that I don't even realize it's happening. If you're crashing I would definitely ask your doc about them.

Fwiw, when I was tested for a job, they did have a form & did ask for any medications I was taking, when they took my "sample"... Either way (if they ask before, or not until after the results), it's legitimate so it shouldn't be a problem. Good Luck! michael
