I have been having a really bad time with Migraine headaches lately. I have been at 180 mg. of Prozac for a little more than 3 weeks. My depression has improved tremendously, but last week I started having migraines again- Is there a possible relationship. To make matters I am allergic to most migraine remedies out there including Imitrex. My neurologist has suggested treating me with 150 mg. Demerol and 100 mg. Vistaril which does seem to help. However, last week I was in so much pain that I had to go the E.R. for migraine treatment and even though I carry a letter from Neurologist with the recomended dosage-- I feel like I have to fight tooth and nail to get the appropriate dose of medication. The higher dose does help because it knocks me out completely and then when I wake up the Migraine is gone. However, it seems as tho this time it is just hanging on --I wake up every morning with it. My pdoc says that there are people who require high-doses of demerol or morphine for their migraines. Anyway, I will be seeing a pain management specialist on July 3--does anyone have any ideas for me between now and then. I am tired of waking up with these migraines every day.

In reply to Headaches -- High Dose Prozac --Is this Possible?, posted by Sarahmarie on June 1, 2002, at 9:18:39
That is a very high dose of Prozac. I also have migraines and have been on Prozac. I think there is definitely a relationship, and your dose of Prozac is too high. I found going higher on Prozac for me did not help much but the side effects got worse. Maybe there is another answer for you. I take Maxalt 10 mgs. It's similar to Imitrex which you can't take, but I found it to be much better [at least for me]. Good luck with the headaches.
