Zoloft and low motivation

Posted by Bookgurl99 on May 27, 2002, at 20:23:24

Help! I just started on Zoloft 3 weeks ago (25 mgs first week, 50 mgs next 2 weeks) for severe anxiety.

My girlfriend says that I am not myself -- and I'd have to agree. She's pointed out that I have very low motivation and am not as talkative/caring or opinionated.

It's true -- I realized I'm just sleepwalking through my days.

I've had so much trouble/trauma from getting off of Serzone -- a severe withdrawal reaction -- that I'm terrified of going through it again. But I don't think I can keep living this way.

Does anyone have any words of advice/wisdom when you're switching from one SSRI to another?
Any advice RE: Zoloft? or good ad's that don't kill motivation?

Hi,

You may want to suggest Mirapex as an add-on to your psydoc. My doctor was going to add this when I was taking luvox and experiencing this, but then we decided to change to an MAOI instead. Provigil is also supposed to be useful for SSRI induced fatigue but I'm not sure what effect it would have on motivation.

Good Luck,
Jon

I just stopped taking Zoloft. It also made me unmotivated and fat! LOL! I ended up feeling horrible on it. Celexa is a good one that gives you energy and motivation. Prozac is supposed to be good too.

Hey rainbowlight,
thanks for your suggestion on Celexa.

is there anything I should pay attention to RE: Zoloft withdrawal? (I'm gonna bump down to 25's until I talk to my pdoc.)

I wish that were true with *me*!! Me + SSRIs = yuck! ;) Yet I agree, you may want to talk to your doc talk about changing to a different SSRI. Zoloft kills my energy and motivationl, but celexa is the kindest as far as my expereince goes (fwiw). Call you're doc to make these changes. He may not have you stop the zoloft before celexa, but add in the celexa and taper down the zoloft, and then find the ideal dose of Celexa for you. Anywho, Keep your doc up to speed!

Good Luck,
Jon
