klonopin worth a try?

Posted by jonh kimble on May 14, 2002, at 22:36:33

i have social anxiety, and have never tried klonopin. i have never had a lasting med response (although im seing a very good psychologist) i didnt respond to valium or nardil which are both gaba increasing drugs, and the only drug with a pro response has been dexedrine which stopped working, so i wonder if theres any use. but id love to hear differently if anyone has any info. also, what effect does klono have on dopamine? (if any) and how likely is it that a family doc will prescribe it? any other info would be great. thanks

jon

Everyone is different, but I would say an emphatic, YES - try it. I am the type of person who does not like any drug - even aspirin, unless completely necessary. For my anxiety attacks, I had tried (many years ago) Xanax and valium and then had too sharp an action and then subequent drop off. Klonopin has a slower "kick-in" and longer half life giving a much smoother acting effect. It worked great for me. Also, since it does have a much smoother effect, there is less liklihood of become dependent like one might with Xanax and valium or other similar meds.
