Pills under tongue

Posted by Carlos on May 8, 2002, at 9:29:54

If I take my klonopin under my tongue will it "hit me" quicker?

I read on another board of someone doing this to get the effects quicker. Is this technically true?

I've tried it, but only with my klonopin ( I also take Celexa and Dexedrine ). The klonopin is actually a bit sweet, rather than bitter.

It was hard for me to judge weather it hit me quicker or not, I'm on a steady dose. 1mg in the morning, 1mg at night and sometimes .5 in the evening. So considering Klonopins long half-life I hardly have a low enough drop of it in the bloodstream to judge weather under-tongue or swallowing the pill makes a difference. Anyone else tried this?

Doesn't really work with klonopin.... » Carlos

because like you said it has a long half life and you have a steady state going. If you need a quick sub-ling for a panic attack- xanax is the best- starts working in about 5-10 minutes. Take care, Judy

I thought this might be true with Klonopin when I was
cutting the pill up into crumbs. But then my doctor scolded me
and told me the absorbtion under my tongue for klonopin was not
as reliable as down the chute.

I think the pill need to spicifically be designated
"sublingual" to do the under the tongue deal.

Hi,

I always put my Lorazepam under my tongue, even though it is not the sublingual type, it seems to work faster than swallowing it. It tastes like Nutrasweet so I don't mind it. I'm not sure if the same would happen with your drug though.

The Klonopin worked under the tongue, but the doctor told me that
the amount that would be bioavailable would not be as predictable as
if I swallowed the medicine.

I thought the sub-lingual approach worked for me as well...it seems i feel the effects quicker....actually, i chew them up instead of letting them dissolve. Thank God for this forum, and Thank God for my clonazepam!! It has rescued me from SEVERE anxiety.
