I thought it was a joke with the effexor withdrawa

Posted by Marie416 on May 3, 2002, at 14:36:52

How long 'til it ends? I was taking a 37.5 pill every other day until my pdoc said that if I take one everytime I start to feel dizzy, I am basically prolonging the agony because I will always need that 1 pill. I have been off completely for 6 days. The dizziness, tiredness and achiness are all manageable meaning I can still go to work but they are very uncomfortable and don't seem to be getting any better. When I stopped the effexor, 2 days later I got so dizzy and sick I left work early and called out the next day. Then I took the pill every other day until I just stopped. Any idea when I can expect this to end. I can't even describe this dizzy feeling besides feeling like I am recovering from a rough amusement ride and When I look or turn too quickly in a different direction I feel like I almost get this quick head rush type dizzy feeling, too hard to explain.

I guess you would prolong it forever if you did every other day forever, but you could adhere to a strict schedule of something less than completely stopped, if withdrawal gets really bad. For example even one every week for a couple weeks would surely ease things just a little, give you a respite of a few tolerable days now and then. Not trying to weaken your resolve, because its admirable, just introducing another option.

I can totally relate to how you feel. Last summer I went through a hellish withdrawel from Celexa. Maybe you need to taper slower, something like 35 mgs. for a week, then 30 mgs. for a week. I know it sucks to go that slow, but it may help ease the transition. Some people take alot longer than others to feel better.

It's pretty awful, I did it last summer.
I tapered, and when I went off it, I felt like I had a mild case of the flu for about 3-4 days and random weird muscle twitches that went away slowly until they disappeared about week 3.

Btw, I think what you're talking about with the head-turning-dizziness is "vertigo" :)

Effexor withdrawal - week four for me

Hi,
I just wrote a long post above about my Effexor withdrawal. I've been tapering steadily for about 4 weeks. Once I got to the 37.5 tablet and took it for a few days, I then took half of that for a few days, then 1/4....I think you need to go much slower than you are. But still, I'm experiencing bad side effects - mostly emotional! Sobbing and more sobbing....

Thank you to all who replied. I feel bad for people who deal with vertigo on a regular basis. About day 8 or 9 into it the vertigo lessened to a great degree. Now I only mildly feel it from time to time. I think it's been just about two weeks now since I stopped it completely. Had the crying jags too but those ended. Feeling much better now. Motion sickness comes on real quick though from car rides if I am the passenger, that's probably due to leftover vertigo. Thanks again.

Your doc should have given you a rew prozac, you might still ask. Prozacs super long half-life is good for weaning off Efxr or other SSRI's. This has been known for quite a while. I don't understand. Do doctors ever read?

Did you find that Celexa withdrawal took a long time? I'm really worried because I stopped Celexa about three weeks ago and after a couple of weeks I started to have "electric head" (if this is now the term). I took the occasional pill if it got unpleasant, just to take it away temporarily. Then, a few days ago I started to get stabbing pains in all the muscles of my back, shoulders and neck. Could it possibly be caused by coming off the Celexa? Would appreciate help, as I get REALLY stressed when I think I might be ill...

I am also wondering the same thing. I am kinda scared about these symptoms and the celexa website offers absolutly nothing on this issue. I would like to say that i am suffering effects much the same as you have mentioned..... the "electric head" (severe tingling in my face and scalp), and the stabbing pains in my back muscles. I have had the tingling for a week or more but the back pains only started a day or so ago and really scared me. It was just a sudden pain, I thought that something was physically stabbing me it happened so suddenly. I am a bit relieved to hear that I am not the only one suffering this and that is it due to the med.

If you're still having problems, take about three days worth of Prozac and it will help! It worked for me!
