the firs 4 hours of the day are hell with it. sleepiness and feeling horrible. then after i feel not too bad and not too sleepy. this med helps a bit. is there anything just like it but without the sedation? perhaps another anti psychotic is for me.... zyprexa helped a bit too but made me sleepy like hell.

I don't think you can find another med like Lamictal. Lamictal has fairly unique properties. I think its best selling point is low side effects (well, it made you sleepy) and its ability to "buffer-out" major depression. A lot of people find that they may need to add on another AD or a stimulant to "get to home base".
But I find with the Lamictal as my base medicine, the mood swings are much more tolerable, and swapping in other meds because less painful.As far as the atypical APS go, I believe that Risperidone may be a good one to avoid sedation.

Hi Adamie,
How much Lamictal are you taking? And do you take it all at night, or split the dose and take it morning and night?I'm wondering, because my pdoc wanted me to split the dose between night and morning, but when I took it in the morning I could not tolerate it. I was either sleepy (like you) or very agitated -- it made me very volatile. But when I took it all at night, along with some Klonapin, I was generally fine during the day. I was only on 75 mg.

i was taking risperdal all this time. makes the first 4 hours of the day sleepy and horrendous.i tried lamictal before. i forgot how it was but i think it was very bad.
