Hi. I'm new to the board, and have just stareted Effexor. I'm currently on 37.5/day..but will up that after 3 days. Have heard alot of really good and really bad things about this drug. I'd like some feedback from anyone who's been on it...

Thanks!!

I've just started on 37,5 too.

Hi,
I was on eeffexor xr few weeks ago, starting at 75 mg/d, but i suffered of side effects like dizzy, drowsy,....
So i preferred to start this time at 37,5 for few days and so go on later.
I felt no side effects at all, and today i increased to 50 mg.
Our body seems to get used to the drug in 4 days, so i have created my pesonal protocol:
4 days on 37,5, 4 days on 50 mg, 4 days on 62,5, and than up to 75 mg/d.
I hope i will works without side effects.
Remeber "Slow & Low" if you are particulary sensible to the drug.
Bye

I am not taking effexor now for unrelated reasons (bipolar issues and cycling) but found it to be an amazingly helpful med - the most useful AD I tried. My son, 13, is also taking Effexor and it has had a tremendous effect on his anxiety levels. He is like a different kid. The side effects passed fairly quickly. Good luck!!

I've been on Effexor XR for a month, 150mg for two weeks. It's helping me a lot. Side effects seem to be going away, except for a little trouble falling asleep (seems to be improving) and jaw tightness (seems to be improving). I was on generic prozac for three weeks and Effexor seems to work more slowly, so be patient.

I'm also new to the site, it seems helpful, and I appreciate the advice!

Hi. I'm taking 375 mg/day of Effexor, which is the maximum dose recommended by the drug company (and at the upper end of the range of doses that are used). I started at 37.5 too. I have found it to be pretty benign. It works well for very severe depression and for milder depression, and anxiety as well. Some of the more common side effects people get are sexual dysfunction, jitters, nausea, constipation, dry mouth, decreased appetite, excessive sweating, insomnia or fatigue, and tremor. A side effect to watch out for is elevated blood pressure.

If you decide to stop taking Effexor, you should decrease the dose very gradually. One trick people sometimes use in order to minimize withdrawal symptoms is switching to Prozac, a much longer-acting drug.

I hope this helps. Good luck to you.

Hi,

I just started Effexor last week, too! I am on the baby dose of 37.5mg for 2 weeks, as well as taking 150mg of Wellbutrin. Unfortunately, I have almost immediately had decreased libido and problems in that area (very similar so far to what I experienced on Paxil, and later Zoloft). I haven't felt any less anxious (taking it for GAD) but I know it needs to build up in my system, and that my dose is very low. Other than the sexual dysfunction, I haven't had any other effects. I'm a bit freaked by what I've read about Effexor, too. I know we all react differently to different drugs, but have heard some creepy stuff about Effexor. I'm glad to see that some have been on it, and it has truly helped them.

Take care
