Has Neurontin ever been known to exacerbate irritability/agitation/muscle tension?

Does it create those symptoms for you now? I can't imagine how Neurontin could cause agitation or tension, but anything is possible.

While I also think that anything is possible, I wouldn't think Neurontin could cause agitation or tension. I've been on 2000mg./day for 10 months now, and have never experienced anything like that.

Yes, it has..nervousness/irritability, emotional lability, and hostility are all listed as side effects

Although I have not taken it myself, I was a little worried about that. Have you actually experienced this, or did you just hear about it?Bob

I have nothing bad to say about Neurontin....I just quit taking it a few days ago; I took it for epilepsy, along with Topamax. I can't say that I experienced any side-effects...perhaps for the first couple of days I felt a little "drunk" but that quickly passed.

What about the Topomax? How did you fare with that?
Why did you stop the Neurontin?

Maybe if you're experiencing these things, especially the muscle tension, you should tell your doctor. I think those things might qualify as "less common side effects," and you should tell him/her about it.
I found a big list of side effects for Neurontin here, and saw anxiety, apathy and muscle pain listed as "less common or rare" side effects. Here's the URL:

well, I'm still taking the topamax, my doc just increased it from 200mg to 400mg..prior to the increase I didn't have any noticeable problems with the topamax.
The past few days, I haven't been feeling well, because of the topamax or what I can only assume are discontinuation symptoms from the Neurontin (1800mg) My symptoms include: intense daytime drowsiness, chills, weakness, low temperature (95-97 degrees). I have been taking both drugs for almost 2 years.
It's really hard to say which drug causes which specific side-effect, since I started both meds around the same time, compounded by the other med I take (Nardil)
FWIW until this point I have never noticed any side-effects with Topamax or Neurontin
and FWIW, the reason why I am no longer taking Neurontin is because I had my first "normal" EEG in 2 years

Just reading about neurontin and realizing that
all the side-effects I have are on the "less
common" list. I've only been on four days and
can't stand it any more. The symptoms have been
increasingly getting worse and include: headache,
nausea, dizziness, feeling "high" and "zoned", eye
movements. Basically, yesterday I felt like I was
really drunk. I balled up in bed, was nauseous,
felt like my head was spinning, and had a throbbing
headache. Also, my husband tells me I act like I'm
"high". That's when I decided this drug wasn't
getting a full week trial. Is this something I
should worry about or just mark it as one more
drug that doesn't work for me?Amber
