dopamine and cognition cocktail for me

Posted by JohnX2 on March 28, 2002, at 20:04:46

Lamictal 150 mg
Serzone 300 mg <--------
Klonopin 2 mg
Topamax 400 mg <--------

Sorry, just get sick of all the medicine bashing.
These meds do work for some people. Today things are going too good for me (too much dopamine buzz).

Is the dopamine from the topamax or the serzone?

I think most of it is from the Big Gulp sitting next to me. ;)

I'm dx BPII. I think I have very old leftover PTSD also.

I get a sustainable AD response from Serzone, but that is it. All the other ADs don't work or make me manic and poop out.

The Topamax was used to help mainly with a facial neuralgia (tension headaches). But it is supposed to be good for PTSD. No "dopamax" for me.

Lamictal does most of the mood chores.

Regards,
John

JohnX2,

You didn't answer Jazzdog's question. Which of your current meds do you believe are improving dopamine transport?

Hi Ron,

I don't know if I really can single out a given medicine. I think it is mainly the combination of Lamictal and Serzone. The topamax may be playing a role too, as it precipitated some hypomania a few months back. The Serzone add on was late in the game and that is when I really got the "dopamine kick". But this is transient with some mood cycling.

Best Regards,
John

I should reiterate that the medicines that work for me may not work for someone else.

(Just don't want people to shy away from some fringe medicines that may be helpful either. I did this and found out late in the game that they were helpful to me.)

John,

Thanks for the informational reply. You are a good man and I respect your evaluations/opinions. (Your competence is not surprising since most EE's are bright).

Hey, I never heard back from you regarding an exchange you and I began on a thread from last week. Here is a link to my response to you. Please let me know your opinions?

Hi Ron,

I'll take a good look over the post and get back shortly.

One thing I'll point out about my latest "dopamania" is that probably caffeine is playing a large role. I think the medicines are just "setting me up" biologically to allow stimulants to work easily. Wellbutrin was another AD that did this for me.

I got bad poop-out on stimulants and found was doing some research recently on AMPA receptors (which topamax modulates) and how they are involved in the sensitization of dopamine receptors. I think that may be where the Topamax is doing some work (it modulates AMPA glutamate transmission). Shortly after starting topamax, my tolerance to caffeine, pseudoephedrine, etc dropped a lot. A lot of speculation I must admit however...
