Re: effexor - weight loss or gain?

> i am new to effexor and only taking 75 mg. I was previously on zoloft but changed due to weight gain. I thought effexor might help with the appetite but i am eating more than ever. has anyone had this experience, only been on 75 for two weeks.

Hi all, Kiddo here, I just began taking this as well. My pdoc told me that nausea was a side effect, but nothing about weight gain...perhaps it has something to do with my bulimic/anorexic tendencies.

What about diarrhea and an upset stomach?

Thanks-

Bev and Kiddo

Hi Kiddo,

I've been on Effexor for a couple of years now. My weight has been up and down, but most recently has been on the rise. I don't think this is related to the Effexor as much as it is to the Trazadone that I take at bedtime to help me sleep. I've always had a history of weight gain.

As for the nausea, this should pass after the first couple of weeks. Hang in there and see if that doesn't pass.

good luck

I've been on Effexor since last November. I'm currently taking 150mg. I had nausea in the beginning but it went away after a couple of weeks. :) I've also lost 12 1/2 lbs in the last month. :) My ONLY good side effect. I hope it continues.

For the first few months on Effexor I had a relatively good AD response and no weight gain. Then the drug turned on me in a big way. I began gaining weight and experiencing mixed states. My psych doc told me that Effexor didn't cause weight gain (therefore, it was my own irresponsible, self-indulgent eating behaviors) and recommended increasing the dose. In his defense, I did not recognize that I was in mixed states -- isn't it odd that some of us, regardless of how knowledgable we are about these illnesses still don't recognize states when we're in them? And, he was working on the assumption that the clinical trials on Effexor, which showed more weight loss than gain, would be indicative of long-term effects. People respond differently, of course, but that was my experience.

What are mixed states, please? (nm) » Ponder
