I am wondering how other people handled going from 20mg to 40mg of Celexa?
Thanks,
Jaynee

I've never had side-effects from Celexa so going to 40 from 20 mg only meant I saw an improvement in a week or so. Nothing else.

I went from 20 mgs to 30 mgs after a few weeks and for me it was agitating at 30 mgs. Everyone is different. May be you can try 30 mgs first but cutting pill. I went off Celexa, but it works well for some. Good luck with your dosing.

I went from 20 to 40 with a brief intermediate period on 30 and didn't have any problems.

Hi,
I usually "hang out" on the Effexor XR posts above, but I am currently being weaned from the Effexor to Celexa so I guess I had better move down here! I began to get on to the Celexa with 5mgm last Wed (five days ago) and will move up to 10 mgm this coming Wed. eventually reaching 20 mgm by my next pdoc visit in three weeks. How does this compare with the 325mgm of Effexor XR that I was on? Some one told me that they thought that (the 20mgm) was a low dose).
I have been on AD's most of my adult life. Any feedback appreciated. Maria

Hi Maria,I take Celexa, and it is pretty mild. It is nowhere near as strong as even Zoloft, which I also took. It certainly is not in the league of Effexor for strength. I would reccommend you try to get up to at least 40 mg. I am on 20 mg. and I feel that is doing not much at all. Caffeine dose much more! But, I use it for OCD, so it is different. If my obsessions and compulsions cut down, then I know it is working well. They have quite a bit. It is still mild though in it's action. That is a good thing though, because you can get to a higher dose easier. Good luck to you.
Frankie.

Frankie,Thanks for your reply. I am now up to 10 mgm of Celexa and down to 225mgm or the Effexor xr. The only difference I feel at this point is terrific drowsiness in the late morning and early afternoon. However, I have been on enough antidepressants to know to stick it out. I really hope that the weight comes off once I get off the Effexor -- it has been a nightmare to have gained this much. Thanks again Maria

Maria,
I was on Celexa before anything else and it seemed to work somewhat at first, but then died off. Was switched to Effexor XR and got up to 225 mgs of that, which seemed to work for me. Was on that about a year, went off, went back on 6 months later, it was terrible, so I was switched to Paxil & Wellbutrin was added later.
Anyway, I've since switched docs twice & my new pdoc, who seems much much sharper than the previous two (!) has taken me off Paxil & put me back on Celexa. He said that since I had shown an initial response to Celexa but it had died after that, that I probably never got up to a therapeutic dose, and that he may move me up to 60 or 80 mgs. In addition, he felt that the Wellbutrin was a good augmentor for Celexa. And Wellbutrin helps with any sexual side effects the Celexa might cause.
