I've been taking Wellbutrin IR 100mg 3 x a day for almost 1 year. My Dr asked if I would like to try the SR just to reduce the number of pills I'm taking. My first experience with the SR was uncomfortable - I was very agitated and anxious.
I had to start out 75mgIR 2x then 3x a day and then switched to 100mg. I don't have any bad side effects now, only vivid dreams and occasional irritablity(probably just my personality). I have a good prescription plan and the difference between Generic and Regular is only $5.00.
I'm doing OK any reason why I should switch?
Thanks,
Bonnie

Bonnie,I say if you were doing well with the IR pill then
stick with it! I was given the IR by accident once and I
couldn't believe how much money I saved, it seemed to work
better too. The SR was developed partly because there was
a minute risk of seizure associated with taking Wellbutrin.
But this was mostly in bulemic women during the clinical
trials. The actual active metabolites of Wellbutrin have a
very long 1/2 life in the body, close to 20 hrs.The IR pill is very simple and will be absorbed into the body
very readily in a more predictable fashion. The SR pill contains
a lot of special coatings that use space aged technology to take
advantage of differences in PH in your stomach and intestines so
that the pill sits there and is slowly dissolved. So for some people
the timing of the SR release might actually be kinda irratic sitting
in your gut.-John

I don't take them now, but when I did I preferred the IR to the SR and I had the generic.
