I have MDD, PTSD and anxiety. I am taking desipramine 150mg, lamictal 100mg 2x day, ritalin 20mg 2x a day, ativan prn, and allergy meds and Imitrex, which I would die without. Question is, I need to quit smoking to get this elephant off my chest. I've quit smoking in the past, once for 3 years, but it's a stress response for me. My pdoc gave me a script for WellbutrinSR (Zyban, my insurance won't cover it if it's written for Zyban). I am going to start the wellbutrin tomorrow and I've taken it before, it didn't do jack for my depression, but I did quit smoking. I'm going to stop the ritalin while taking the wellbutrin. Anyone ever try anything like this. I'm reluctant to use the ritalin and wellbutrin at the same time, I think it would just be too drying. TIA

Hi,
Fortunately, I didn't have to deal with smoking issues like you did. But a few years ago, when my psychiatrist and I thought that stimulants might be the cause of some of my agiatation problems (they weren't), I switched and did what you're about to do. Not to scare you but for me, it was awful. But then again, I am in the 1% side effect category so please don't go by my experience. Anyway, I ended up going back to Ritalin without any problems.

I am currently on 300 mg/day wellbutrin SR and I just started dexedrine spansules 3 weeks ago. My pdoc has me titrating up 10 mg/day each week so I'm now on 30 mg/day and I can't even tell I'm taking the dexedrine. I go back to see him next week and see if he's going to have me keep going up or try something else. With the combination I get a little dry mouth not unlike what I get with antihistamines.
