tricyclic augmentation with lithium

Posted by Dave1 on February 8, 2002, at 14:15:37

Hi,

I've been on anafranil( 150mg/day) for depression for several weeks. I added lithium(900m g/day), and felt
a small dent in my depression. Before this combo. I was totally resistant to all meds. that I tried.

I was wondering, has anyone else been treatment resistant, and then had a good response with a tricyclic/lithium combination? If so, please describe your experience.

Thanks,
Dave

For future reference on Lithium and your viable future combinations dearest Dave, please consult http://www.med.nyu.edu/Psych/aug/sld007.html

Please consider an extended-release formulation of Lithium to minimize daytime sedation and other side-effects....

Imipramine 200mg per day ..... added lithium 900mg and within 4 days I started to feel better. Used the combo for 2 years. Side effects were basically tremor, severe memory difficulties, decrease libdo/sexual ability, mild hypoglycemia, fatigue.

It seems now most treatment resistant folk after etc go on pamelor and lithium .... a recent studies found relapse rate lower on this combo.

Severe memory difficulties? That doesn't sound so good.

HI,

I was getting tremor also. It made me nervous because a long time ago when I tried anafranil,
I was told to stop it because of the tremor being
permanent. At this point I really don't care.
I stopped the lithium because I was going to try
ECT, then get on pamelar + lithium. I can't decide if I should get back on the lithium and
higher dose of anafranil, or do the ECT first.
I'm feeling really bad, and getting some psychotic
symptoms. I tried getting on the pamelar + lithium 6 months ago, but several doctors wouldn't
give me the pamelar because they said it was to dangerous or outdated. There so damn worried about lawsuits I guess.

Bye,
Dave

The doctors told you Pamelor was dangerous and outdated?

Wow!

HI,

How long did it take you to get the maximum benefits? Did it happen all at once or gradually over a week or so?

I've been on the lithium for 5 days (to augment
anafranil) and might be noticing a little improvement but nothing significant yet.

thanks,
Dave

Dave,

Was the imipramine working before you added the lithium?
