imipramine - advice?

Posted by Lia Mason on February 3, 2002, at 15:19:27

Hi,

I'm having problems with feeling tired on Pamelor (nortriptyline) and my doctor recommended a switch to imipramine. She said it's so activating that people have to take it in the am. This contradicts everything I've ever head about imipramine. Any truth to it?

I think there is some truth to it. It may depend how you body metabolizes the imipramine ...... if you have high levels of imipramine and low levels of the one metabolites, desipramine, it will probably be sedating. I myself had low levels of imipramine and high levels of desipramine and found the drug activating. I think the higher the level of desipramine in the body, the more activating. And desipramine is much more activating that pamelor.

I found imipramine activating - high pulse rate. But PDoc thinks I'm sensitive to meds.
