begging for help!

Posted by ELA on January 23, 2002, at 12:39:47

Amitriptyline and citalopram are my current meds but with all the trauma following my suicide attempt, sleep has become almost impossible again. Is there anything else that I can take with my current meds (am also on warfarin) so that I can get some rest?!

You might try augmenting w/ Remeron at night, though that may make you -too- sleepy. Ambien is a benzo-like hypnotic that will work for a little while, though I don't recomend it for long term every night usage...

You -could- take a benzo like klonopin or xanax, but for sleep I don't recomend this as a long term solution.... The xanax especially will build up tollerance...

You might also try an AD like Zyprexa which seems to help me sleep very well... 5mg to 10mg at night before bedtime and I usually do not wake up until the alarm goes off, and yes I do have a history of sleeping disorders...

I'm unfamiliar w/ the meds you are on, so you might ask your doctor if any of the meds I've mentioned would be appropriate for you.

good luck

Hi ELA--

Your pdoc may be willing to write you a scrip for some Ambien, in spite of your recent experience. Ambien is a short-acting hypnotic (sleeping pill) which has low-to-no OD potential. I take 15 mg. every night because my hi dose Effexor makes sleep impossible. It lasts only 4 hrs., so is not appropriate if you have difficulty staying asleep. I like it because there's no morning hangover effect.

I'm not sure what you took, or how much was absorbed, but it may be possible that you're having rebound activation/anxiety from the OD. If so, it should dissipate shortly. Hang in.

Good luck and well wishes---medlib

You might want to try some over-the-counter Benadryl (diphenhydramine) or Nytol (doxylamine succinate).

I'd recommend not taking Amitriptyline with benadryl or doxylamine without asking your doctor.
