Hi,
my doc prescribed me Paxil (paroxetine) for a melanchonic depression (aphaty, low mood, anergy, etc..).
I'm going on it during the next week, but i'm not experienced about this med, and i need some information about it.
What is the standard dosage: 20, 40 mg or more?
Shall i take it once a day?
How long does it take to work?
What are the principal side-effects?
I'm scary about sexual disease (reduction of sex desire) cause i've read that they are very frequent during its use (as i experienced on other ad).
Does this side effects fade passing months?
Can you please share your experince about it?
It will certainly be very helpful for me!

Sexual dysfunction on SSRIs are readily remediable by a number of psychopharmacological agents and regular pharmaceutic agents: Here's the low-down:
Methylphenidate †
- 5-40 mg/d
- For SSRIs or venlafaxine
- Libido, arousal, orgasmDextroamphetamine †
- 5-40 mg/d
- Avoid night dosing (insomnia)
- Libido, arousal, orgasmPemoline †
- 18.75-75 mg/d
- Check liver function
- Libido, arousal, orgasmGinkgo biloba extract †
- 180-240 mg/d, tid, divided doses
- Potential increased clotting time, possible flatulence

- Used for anticholinergic side effects (TCAs, paroxetine); produces cholinergic side effects
- ArousalNeostigmine †
- 200 mg/d, tid divided doses
- Used for anticholinergic side effects (TCAs, paroxetine); produces cholinergic side effects
- ArousalEstrogen creams or lubricants
- As needed
- For vaginal dryness, atrophy of vaginal tissue
- ArousalAmantadine
- 100 mg bid
- Caution in patients predisposed to psychosis

- 4-12 mg qhs
- MAOIs, TCAs, SSRIs, venlafaxine; watch for reemergence of depressive symptoms; sedating

Actually it is just follow on all those meds.
True those things are all possibly helpful,
and especially Wellbutrin, Ritalin, Serzone, and best combo of Serzone + Wellbutrin or Serzone + ritalin.
Prostigmin ain't bad either, maybe it's particularly good with Nardil because of it's cholinergic and related anti-serotonin effect leaving Nardil looking more stimulant like.Anyhow, I just wanted to add I don't think the antidote strategy is the way to go unless really necessary.
A tolerable and mild loss in efficacy with more normalized sexual function is naturally going to reduce depression anyway.I should preface with "in my opinion" because that's all it is.

> ByeI realize this is a late post but hope you still check on time to time.I am taking 10 mgs as of tonight I will go to 20mgs and I felt quietness and dry mouth and lost even 7 10 pds give or take and even had sexual relations on it for my first week so I felt no low desire it seemed to just make me quiet and not so hungry.My kids had a not so angry and yelling mom!!!Actually we had a great weekend and I am actually looking forward to spring break.
