Hello, i currenty am perscribed .5mg of xanax in am. It works fine for about 6-8 hrs, then i could feel the withdrawl and panic anxiety come back. If i tell my doc to switch me to klonazipam 1 or 2mg in am, will i get a better long lasting effect for teh day?

Go to the top of the P-babble page and you can find a link to a Benzo table that gives a relatively good indication of how the benzos compare. According to the chart, 2 mg of Xanax is roughly equivalent to 1 mg of Klonipin. And yes, I've had both. Frankly, Xanax is more fun, but Klonipin has a better therapeutic effect for me. And yes, the half-life is much longer. Much smoother drug. Xanax is probably more popular for panic attacks because it’s very fast acting. But the Klonipin isn't far behind. It also has a much better taste to it, if you chew it up.

My pdoc said Klonopin acts a bit like a depressant; and Xanax is anti depressant. I take the Xanax as needed [not too much as I am on Prozac]. If it lasts 6 to 8 hours, then take another one if it works well for you. I believe Xanax is the best for panic attacks. Good luck.
