effexor and trazodone combo help

Posted by NatA on December 12, 2001, at 16:24:13

Hi,
I have been on effexor for three months and it has been wonderful for me. I am taking it for GAD and Depression. This is the first med for me and have been so happy with it. I went to see my doc today due to lack of sleep. I have been averaging about 3 to 4 hours a night. Just simply not enough. She gave me some trazodone 50 mg.. take one or two at night to sleep. Anyone have any sucess with this combo? I am hopeful and would love to have any feedback on this combo.. Thanks a bunch in advance!!
Nat

Hello - I have taken trazodone for many many years, at first by itself and then with other antidepressants. I took it along w/ my effexor and had no problems. I now take it along w/ celexa plus other drugs. To treat depression, a therapeutic dose of trazodone is 300-400mg - way too sedating for most people. Your 50mg dose should be just fine to help you sleep.

Good luck.
