Swallowing part of it won't hurt in the least. It's supposed to get into your system faster under your tongue but even swallowed, you'll still get the full effects, just a little slower.

Hi,
I didn't even know you were supposed to put it under your tongue, the doctor didn't tell me that. I swallow one every night and it seems to work just fine !

That's what "sublingual" means, "under the tongue." But Ativan can also be taken by just swallowing. Dissolving it under your tongue allows it to be absorbed by the mucous membranes in your mouth, which is faster than having it go through your GI tract.
