Anyone take Wellbutrin before bed

Posted by pat c. on December 1, 2001, at 8:17:37

I was thinking about taking Wellbutrin before
bed. I know it's agitiating and could cause insomnia.

I also take Neurontin, and I'm tired of waking up depressed. I sleep 8 hrs, and I need to take Neurontin every 6 hrs, or I start feeling really depressed.

I thought that taking Wellbutrin at night my help this.

Any thoughts?

Pat

Hi,

Are you taking the time-release wellbutrin? This may help. You might be able to take a dose in the early evening. My doc said not to take wellbutrin right before bed.

When I took neurotin alone for a month and then quit, I felt like crap for a week. I had developed some sort of dependency on neurotin. I noticed when I was late with a dose, I started feeling depressed.

Neurotin is like caffeine (which I use for depression but shouldn't) - I can't live with it and can't live without it.

But my neurotin woes went away when I added wellbutrin. As I said in an earlier post, I used to always slur my words after just 300mgs of neurotin but when wellbutrin is added to the mix, there's no hint of slurred speech.

I hope you find a solution. Once again, I'm in the same boat. I would like to take wellbutrin at night and avoid the neurotin hangovers.

Yes.

I feel totally the same way.

I feel addicted to Neurontin
like it has me captive.

I'm taking Wellbutrin SR.

That's the as time release, right.

You've given me motivation to get
off Neurontin. I just don't know
what to do about the anxiety problems
with Wellbutrin. I guess it will pass
with time, right?

Neurontin helps my social phobia, I think.
I also take Klonopin, and that's the main
driver of the anti-social-phobic action.
I would love to get off both Klonopin and Neurontin.

Yes, and I'm also drinking coffee as we speak
to get some motivation and help the depression,
even though coffee gives me anxiety attacks.

Stuck between a rock and a hard place, you know.

Thanks.

Pat

Very interesting. Note prior thread.
This is as I had suspected and I think this is the first time I have seen this talked about here.

My suggestion would be that for people who feel this way, that they cant deal unless they take Neurontin every 6 hours, to get off and try something else. For me personally, I dont feel this way. I can go 10 hours between doses even 12 before I start feeling bad again. So for me this isnt a problem.

Also if you are taking caffiene to feel better and have not looked into ADD or ADHD then I would suggest that. Often ADD is accompanied by anxiety and depresssion however the cause of the depression is ADD not other stuff. Read "Driven To Distraction".

I though about ADD, also.

But my doctor says that if Ritalin, Wellbutrin and other stimulants make you nervous and speedy, then you probably aren't ADD. If those drugs calm you down, then you might have it.

I have a hard problem paying attention and concentrating. I must then be due to the depression.

Thanks.

Possibly but not necessarily.
If you read that book I mentioned it goes into a great deal of detail since ADD is not a cut and dried sort of thing like that. There are people with it for whom any medication doesnt help. It doesnt mean they dont have it, it just means the medication doesnt work for them.

Its a very interesting read anyway whether its applicable or not. Helps one to understand other people who do have it anyway. I see a lot of the symptoms in other people who most likely have it but dont know it themselves. I may give them a copy of the book. :-)

Hello..

I take Wellbutrin SR 100mg tablets...2 in the morning, 2 in the evening before bed.

I just recently (couple of weeks ago) started taking them before bed...I suffer from insomnia to begin with, but DID notice it being more so prominent with the upped dosage of the Wellbutrin. It IS getting a bit better though.

I also noticed some Bruxism (jaw clenching for me) with the upped dosage in the beginning; that too has gotten better now.

For me, I guess it was all a matter of getting used to the higher dosage.

Although I now take my last dose of WB SR in the early evening, for years I took regular WB 100mgs 4xday. My last dose was always when I went to bed. I never found it to be a problem although I usually took that last dose with a small amount of klonopin. I still take klonopin so it wasn't a matter of needing it just because of the late dose of WB.

For a while I was taking my Wellbutrin SR at night in hopes of having an easier time waking up in the mornings. It did make it easier for me to get out of bed, but I had to stop doing it because I woke up a lot and had lots of terrible, extremely vivid nightmares.

Then I tried taking it in the evenings instead of at bedtime, but for me it just didn't work -- if I take it after 6 PM I have nightmares and trouble sleeping, so I went back to taking it in the mornings.

I take Wellbutrin SR (SR = Sustained Release) 150mg twice a day. My evening dose is close to bedtime and it's never caused me any sleep problems.
