Has anyone experienced UNCONTROLLABLE crying while taking Effexor XR? I had been on a maintenance level of 37.5mg/day for months, but life crisis that sent me into a tailspin. My PCP only increased the Effexor XR to 75mg/day, while my therapist believes, per the Physician's Desk Reference, that 150mg/day would be appropriate to "jump start" me out of this horrible depression setback. I find that on the 75mg/day I cry uncontrollably, am able to do nothing but "cycle" thoughts about what had sent me down this slope, and have suicidal thoughts, even with having been on the increased dosage for 4 weeks. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

You are really not at a therapeutic dose in my
opinion. I had good and bad days on the dosage you are on - 75mg xr. I would ask your dr. to
increase your dose gradually until you start to
feel better. Are you seeing a psychiatrist or
a general practitioner? You need to be managed by someone who is knowledgeable about this med.
Hang in there.........it will work.

Yes, I have (an still am) experiencing uncontrollable crying at 75mg effexor xr. I was on 150mg but the side effects were really bad. I've been on 75mg for about two weeks now and I cry over and over again about the exact thing that has me in this never ending depression.
At times, I can literally feel my mood swings. My doc's told me that 75mg should be effective but with less side effects. It really isn't working though.
I'm thinking of going off effexor. After reading tons of these posts, the things it does can be just downright scary.

I've been trying to get off of Effexor and, when I went from 37.5 to nothing, I cried over everything and nothing. Happy or sad, touching, whatever, it didn't matter. I only lasted 5 days off before I had to call and get a 25mg/day prescription. Still hoping to wean off someday!
