I have been taking Paxil for a little over three weeks in an attempt to put a stop to my anxiety and to help with my agorophobia. I began by taking 10mg for a week, then upping to 20mg. A few days after I started taking 20mg, I began having worse anxiety than before I started. I am constantly fidgeting, when I lay down I find myself rubbing my feet together, my jaw is often clenched, my muscles, especially my neck, are tight. I feel so anxious almost all the time, and can't concentrate on anything. I'm always pacing. I had an all out panic attack today. I haven't noticed any improvement in any of my symptoms (i.e., still have a very hard time getting out of the house) and my anxiety is worse. Should I give the Paxil more time, or should I begin considering other options?

I've been taking Paxil 10mg for a week, and tomorrow I start taking 20mg. Hopefully I won't experience anything worse than my original symptoms after the dose increase, but it's possible. I can remember that Prozac and Wellbutrin made my anxiety and OCD worse. Zoloft did a little in the beginning as well, but it wasn't bothersome enough to warrent discontinuation. If Paxil aggravates my condition tomorrow or soon afterwards, I'll probably give myself 1-2 weeks to adjust; you might consider giving yourself more time to adjust too. If the added nervousness is a side-effect it should subside in a matter of days to a week. Try really hard to distract yourself, and keep to your daily routine - like I will if anything happens. Listen to music; call a friend; play a computer game; exercise. Best of luck to both of us, right!
