Hi, I had a bad anxiety attack about 4 years ago, and my doctor(GP) put me on clonazepam and imipramine. I've
been told by others to see a shrink and get off the clonazepam. My GP thinks this is a good idea, when I
suggested it. He now has me on 20 mg daily of celexa as well as the clonazepam and imipramine and has
scheduled me to see a shrink. I am feeling more anxious now and wake up at 4:00 a.m. in the morning and can't
get back to sleep! Is this normal for celexa. Is there hope on the horizon?

When I started Celexa it diminished my worrying (mental anxiety) but made me jittery (physical anxiety). That's normal with Celexa and other SSRI's. But it goes away usually after a few weeks. Try switching the time of day you take Celexa. If you are taking it in the morning, try taking it at night or visa versa. I occasionally took Kava at night for the first 2 months on celexa and that helped.

My anxiety increased initially when taking Celexa and then decreased after about a week. I was able to get off clonazepam (Klonopin) while taking Celexa. I've taken clonazepam twice, for 1-2 years each time, and was able to wean off while taking Celexa. Just go off the Clonazepam very slowly, like reduce by 1/8 mg every 2 weeks. Good luck - Amy.

I have never been really prone to anxiety before, but when I first started taking Celexa I had all these weird fears, especially at night. The strangest was that I was convinced that my friend's puppy, who was sleeping between us, was going to stick her nose under my pillow, suffocate and die!!! I had to spend the whole night with my hand on the nose . . .But luckily that phase didn't last for long, about three weeks, and after that my sleep normalized, too.
