Hello,
Well I have decreased my Effexor XR by 75mg and increased the Prozac to 20mg with no adverse side effects (?). The only thing I feel different is that I feel more tired. Feeling no nausea or dizziness or head rush from withdrawal of Effexor XR (thank goodness). I stay at this level for another week and then decrease Effexor XR by another 75 mg.
Does this tiredness come from the switch or the mixing of meds???

For some reason the Effexor XR stopped working, it wasn't like I was in a major depression but I felt down and my obsessive thoughts did not go away. I know that with Prozac I was OK.
I originally switched from Prozac because I was so tired all the time. I was on a high dose though. I'm hoping I won't feel like sleeping all the time this time around.Jocor

Originally, when I switched from Prozac to Effexor I was on 37.5 mg only for the longest time. Then in Feb '00 I had eye laser surgery and for some reason had a relapse in my depression...I had to go up to 150 mg in order for it to take effect....In the summer '00 I stupidly halved my Effexor to 75 mg and crashed BIG time...I had to go up to 225mg!!!! for it to work. I was OK for a while until I had appendicitis in Mar'01 and relapsed again (not so bad this time but with a lot of obsessive thinking) and had to increase to 300mg Effexor!!!!!. From that point until today, I never got back 100%.
That's why I am switching back to Prozac.
We'll see....Jocor

Hi Jocor,
When I was weaning off of Effexor, I was extremely tired (plus all the other side effects -- so glad you don't have them!), so your tiredness could be a withdrawal symptom. Or, since the Prozac made you tired in the past, it could be the Prozac as well ...Hope all goes well with your next drop in the Effexor dosage ... just a warning that I did fine until the 37.5 mark, then not so hot. I think the Prozac will help you with the withdrawal.
take care,
cindy

> I hope switching works for you. It is a horrible feeling when you crash. You feel so out of control and it takes so long to get back to where you were before the crash. Changing meds is the best thing you can do if the current one is not working. I wish you the best!
