Sick of mirtzipine, what now?

Posted by Edward on July 25, 2001, at 13:11:04

I've been on it for months. Now at 60mg. I can't concentrate for more than about 30 seconds. I get sleepy. Everything looks strange, a bit like the world is made of plastic. At best it makes me feel even more numb than usual. I miss feeling sad; it seems so much better than this numb, bored ache. I thought I'd feel more emotions and motivation on anti-depressants, but I feel less instead. The world seems really worthless. I'm going to tell my psychiatrist I want to change. He's already suggested combining mirtazipine with sodium valproate, but I don't understand why.

I feel uncomfortably numb, not overwhelmed with unhappiness. I find it hard to work on anything because it gives me no satisfaction. I'm bored with life. What does anyone recommend?

Since you asked, I personally would recommend substituting Zyprexa in place of Remeron. Consider taking Prozac with it. Like you, I was on Remeron for quite a while, and it caused me weird things too. When I switched to Zyprexa I was amazed at the new world that opened up to me.

Thanks, but as I am in the UK and have different brand names, could anyone tell me the chemical name of zyprexa?

Okay, I've found out that zyprexa is olanzapine. But how do I ask for it? I'm absolutely certain that my psychiatrist will dismiss my suggestion that, "maybe I should try olanzapine because this guy on the internet said so."

Not that he knows anything about medication. Often when we discuss my meds, he actually reads his textbook in front of me before he tells me what he thinks. It really lessens my faith in him.

Paroxetine for three weeks. I gave up on that because I couldn't eat, couldn't concentrate, kept shaking etc.
And fluvoxamine for a few months. I gave up on that because it didn't seem to do anything at all.
