Opening the capsule and dividing the powder really works. And it doesn't taste bitter! You are a life saver.

Thanks a million for your fast reply and helpful tip.

You're welcome, Chloe. I'm glad I could help. If anyone wants to get back to the thread about Geodon or splitting capsules, here's a link. http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20010708/msgs/70086.html

I am so sorry, Craig! I could not find the post anywhere on the list, or in the archives. So I had to rely on my memory to remember your name. Now, you know how good my memory is!!!

I found I didn't sleep so well last night...On just ten mgs in the morning. I hope this isn't a regular thing, because so far, I really like the way Geodon works. I am not totally slugged out, like on Seroquel or Zyp. But just a bit calmer in my head. I guess I will have to give it more time.

Are you still taking Geodon? What dose, in am or pm? And are you sleeping???

Again, my apologies for slipping on your name.
Thanks,
Chloe

If I had to apologize for all the things I've forgotten, I wouldn't have much time to do anything else! I'd never fault anyone for trouble with their memory.

I'm not taking Geodon yet, but I've been waiting ever since it came on the market and my impatience is growing. My pdoc says a lot of his patients have had trouble tolerating Geodon and he wants to get the dosing fine-tuned before he puts me on it. One of the things he's mentioned is that people have trouble sleeping, so your problem with that sounds familiar. Mood swings are another symptom he's been working on resolving for his bipolar patients. Until then, I'm stuck with Zyprexa. I hate being fat, but sleeping is no problem. I'm curious to know how else you think Geodon compares with Zyprexa.

Geodon is less convienient than Zyprexa because Geodon has to be taken 3 times a day. I would never think that Geodon would cause insomnia, since it is slightly sedating. Geodon is definitely more expensive than Zyprexa, but it may be worth it, considering how Geodon inhibits the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine like Effexor.

Craig,
I really had trouble with Zyprexa. If I took it at bedtime, I was so hung over in the morning. I also would be in a really nasty mood. My temper would get shorter and I would snap at people. I think because I was so tired, I could not deal with anything that came my way.

I tried taking it about 7 pm. But then by 10 pm if I wasn't in bed, I was a very irritable zombie. I couldn't function. Small tasks like brushing my teeth and taking out the dog really pissed me off!

I just felt tired and short fused all the time on 2.5 mgs...Not hungry though. Never had that problem!

Geodon is just more gentle (?). I might feel a little tired, but not comatose. I think I like it. Though it is only day 2! Having to open the capsules in a real pain. I don't feel comfortable taking powder with me, if I am going out to eat, for example, but it has to be taken with food...Real pain...Also, I just am finding I need less sleep. And I like to sleep. That is what helps me get through the day. Sleeping for at least 10 hours! LOL

I do hope you get to try it. I think it is a good drug. Too bad about the sleep problems though...

Keep me posted!
Chloe

Sal,
How come it needs to be taken TID? My pdoc said 10 mgs once a day. (Clearly she did not know this pill is a capsule!) Will once a day be effective for ruminating thoughts, suicidal ideation stuff?
I am extremely med sensitive...

Thanks
Chloe

I take 20mg of Geodon at night as -augmentation- to Effexor XR (at 75mg right now), and remeron (15mg)... I can only guess that I'm -not- yet feeling the effects of the Effexor, since it isnt yet at a dosage level that is therapeutic... If so, then the Geodon definitely does help w/ racing thoughts as these have been rendered pretty null w/ me...

I feel I'm getting benefits from the Geodon, does someone else have information to suggest that 20mg augmentation dose is just a waste of time?
