I am very new to this board, but learning alot about what you all have experienced on Effexor XR and it's effects when trying to get off of it. I have recently been placed on Effexor XR after using Prozac (small success)and Paxil(better, but seemed to become ineffective after 2 years). I have suffered from depression for the past 30 years and am desperate to figure out what is short-circuiting my brain and get it under control. So far Effexor is doing ok, but still not what I hoped for. My doc upped dose from 75mg to 150mg yesterday, so I am hoping that this makes a difference. Have any of you used this drug for a long stretch? Thanks for your input!

I have been on Effexor XR for the past 5 years. I just started reducing my dosage from 300mg/day to 225mg/day (will be trying to get pregnant soon and, since there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of info on effexor and effects on pregnancy, I'm trying to get off of it).
Effexor has been great for me. I intiallly went on it to help control my anxiety, but depression was also playing a role. I have had success that I never would have thought possible before Effexor! I gradually went up to 300mg/day over a few years, as it became necessary to increase. Maybe the higher dosage will be better for you.
Good Luck!
