i have gained about 7 pounds since coming off lamictal and risperidal and celexa, i am on no medictation now and i thought i would certainly lose weight but i have gained and i cannot get it off no matter how hard i try. i do not want to go on any more medications, i am sick of it. but maybe a weight loss drug would help, although i am only about 15 pounds overweight, i don't think any doctor is going to give me a diet drug. any suggestions about why i have gained the weight, i have heard from some that lamictal can cause weight loss, maybe this is why. someone help!!! any suggestions about how to lose the weight without meds. and does merida help, and will my doctor give it to me, i dought it.

Have you considered going on Wellbutrin? That would kill your appetite for sure.

Talk to your Dr, esp if you're middle-aged. There's certain things that can cause weight gain...my mother just found out she was gaining weight cuz she had a thyroid condition!
(by the way, lots of us aren't pharmacists but have perfectly good info... ;) )

Mazindol could be a good choice; it´s a potent anorexitic drug but it was thought originally as an antidepressant and many doctors prescribe it as a mild stimulant. It inhibits the reuptake of NE and DA and its effect is almost the same of amphetamine at low (or very low) doses (no way trying to go beyond that range). Advantages: its action extends for 10 hours, so 1 dose/day is enough; it is a schedule IV substance (no bureaucratic obstacles); it is very potent (high effect/dose ratio), being 1 mg relatively comparable to 5-10 mg of amphetamine.
