effexor-desexer?

Posted by gooball on May 31, 2001, at 0:20:01

Hi, can anyone tell me anything positive about sexual side effects and effexor. I used to take just enough ssri to make me last a long time but still be able to ejaculate and maintain an erection. Unfortunately paxil, zoloft, prozac, and wellbutrin no longer work for me for more than a week or two. Now I'm on day 3 of effexorXR 75mg/day and my penis has become rubbery and non-orgasmic. Might this go away with time? Will it get worse or better at higher doses? Does anyone know any tricks to counteract this? I've felt some response to it but not enough and feel I will probably need to take a bigger dose. Also I have no insurance and this drug is expensive. Does anyone know any ways to get it cheaper? I appreciate any info. Thanx

Hello. I would not draw any conclusions about how Effexor is working for at least 4wks. It took me about 3 mos. & increasing doses before side fx disipated & I really felt good. My sex life actually improved while I was on FXR. Take Care

How do you know when you are taking the right dose? I take Effexor XR 225mg a day. I do see a difference, but there is room for more. My sex life is terrible!!!!!! No libido, anorgasma.... it is awful! And yes, it is VERY EXPENSIVE!!!! I don't have insurance either.

Hello. I would give it a couple more weeks & if no improvement check the threads here & the archives that discuss some of the meds that are available to combat sexual side fx. Also it's always prudent to discuss it with your doc. If the FXR is not helping your mood you then might want to consider another AD. Take care.
