How do you know if you have OCD?

Posted by bonnie_ann on May 3, 2001, at 15:54:46

hi- Ever since I started the SSRI's again 12-00- I've been having thoughts about hurting or just grabbing, touching people. (deal with the public at work- when I walk past them this happens)
Sometimes when I'm driving I wonder about going over into the other lane or hitting a pedestrian? I get afraid when I hear on the news about murder and suicides. Especially when mental illness is involved and the SSRI's.
I am not suicidal or homicidal. I just don't understand why these thoughts just pop in all the time.
Other than the thoughts, I am doing well- not sad and empty- not feeling hopeless sometimes I still get anxious and panicky but that is managable.
I take Wellbutrin 75mg 3 x a day
and Celexa 20mg.
What could be causing this? What should I do?
Bonnie

Those sound like classic OCD symptoms to me, but go see a physician if you want a precise diagnosis.

I only started having them during the weaning on of Paxil in December(2nd time taking it)It was very intense- I was afraid of knives and scissors too and my collection of anti-depressant pills. First time for that too. I wonder what if???????
Maybe this is why:
This woman I know who is bipolar - last year was not taking her medication. The result was she gave her children her medication and they were hospitalized (fully recovered now) she is currently in Jail.
