I am considering switching from Trazadone to Paxil for anxiety. I do not have depression but rather have some anxiety. I noticed that when I was taking Pamalor and now Trazadone I gained a tremendous amount of weight. Does anyone know if Paxil causes weight gain?

Unfortunately, Paxil causes weight gain for many people. Prozac has helped my anxiety and depression, but does not work for anxiety on everyone. It can make it worse for some people. I have lost 5 pounds on Prozac, however and don't have that terrible anxiety and irritability. Talk this over with your doctor; it's very frustrating worrying about weight gain. I do not believe Trazodone puts weight on most people; it is used mostly as a 'sedative' at night. I have a friend on it many years [Trazodone] with Prozac, and she is quite slim. Pamelor is another matter. Good luck.

Does anyone know if Paxil causes weight gain?i was told by one doctor that paxil causes weightloss, and anoher that it often causes weight gain. the effect seems to be quite different in different people. personally, i gained over 60 pounds on paxil, over a period of about two years. i also know a hadful of others who have had significant weight gained on paxil. it is so frustratinto not know how these drugs are goingto affect you, personally, until you try them. i can only wish you luck...take care. i would say, with hindsight, to try to be particularly aware of your weight and any fluctuation you may notice, so that you can nip any problems in the bud!

Even if Paxil does give you weight gain, you can always remedy that with small doses of buproprion or topiramate (appetite-suppressing AD's).

Does anyone know if Paxil causes weight gain?Unfortunately, I too gained a noticeable amount of weight on Paxil, but it did wonders for my social anxiety.
