Hi everyone!
I just started on the Effexor XR over the weekend and have experienced minor nausea and some fairly strong feelings of jitteriness. This I can deal with. The problem I am running into is the SLEEPINESS!!!! I can barely keep my eyes open for more than 2-3 hours at a time.
I spoke to my doctor and he has suggested taking the medication at night before bed but I fear the extended release will just continue to make me tired as I wake up. Anyone have experience with the sleepiness? Any idea how long this side effect lasts? Thanks so much.

It is perfectly acceptable to take the entire dose at bedtime. I believe this will solve your problem.
In the meantime, don't put so much pressure on yourself to be wide-awake and succeed in this treatment phase. You have a disease like any other disease, one that requires rest and relaxation.

phoop,
Hang in there and give it some time - don't bail out yet.
Is this the first SSRI drug you have ever tried?

Does anyone know out there if it's ok to take Claritin when on Eeffexor? Thanks.

Check with your pharmascist concerning mixing claritan and effexor. I use to use the non-drowsy antihistamines until I found a place that listed possible side-effects. They matched the symptoms I've had in the past. I started using a nasal spray prescribed by the doctor, flonase. It isn't as effective as the pills. But I have started feeling better since then. There have been a lot of other changes in my life too so it is hard to say if the antihistamines had any effect.
