I have been waking up every night with urge to urinate but when I try nothing is happening. I know my bladder is full. The rest of the day I do not experience this problem as everything is normal. Is this a side effect of Effexor? This is very painfull.

I think you may be a candidate for some bethanechol (a cholinergic), but that is just a wild guess. See your doctor, of course.

I have this problem during the daytime also. I find that drinking more fluids helps. I'm not much of a water drinker, but I find keeping a glass a water full and sipping on it whenever I pass by helps increase my intake. Though I don't have any pain, just annoying. Perhaps a bladder or kidney infection? I don't think extra water will hurt.

I have noticed that during about my first 3 weeks on effexor. My boyfriend would laugh at me... I would take a magazine into the bathroom to urinate. But it did go away...........
