Concerta, too much??

Posted by Rainwoman on April 13, 2001, at 10:28:46

Hi Guys--

I haven't been here in forever, but alas, here I am now! I am currently perscribed at 54 mg. Concerta daily. It seemed to stop working, so I started taking 2, 108 mg. Please, I don't need to be admonished for this, but I also don't need to lose my job from lack of concentration, so if you could please just not waste space and scold me. I just wonder if anyone knows what the maximum recommended dosage is and am I exceeding it. I am 34, weight 135. I normally have a very high tolerance for medications, maybe cause I'm mostly muscle or maybe I just have an addictive trait. The thing is, I don't know if my metabolism is completely breaking down the pills. Is that possible? Can the pills come out (if ya know what I mean) somewhat whole and you still get the medication. Really wierd questions here, sorry, but thanks in advance!

For all ages, the maximum is 54 mg, according to the Monthly Prescribing Reference.

That's a hell of a lot.

I'm currently taking 54mgs concerta in the AM suplimented with dexidrine spansules. I also do a 18 mg. booster dose of concerta at 2pm. According to my pdoc, the drug company people exagerated the length of time that concerta lasts, as their main emphisis was to make a product that would see school children through the day on a single dose. Those of us who need to be productive 14 hours a day need a bit more.

You can also suppliment the concerta with regular ritilin, following dr's advice of course. At your weight and 108mgs concerta, I'd be worried about blood pressure issues and such.

Oh, the pills have a sustained release casing that often emerges intact at the end of the digestive process, but the full ammount of active medication has been released. Seeing pills in the toilet is still a bit odd though.
