Rage reaction

Posted by Poppy on April 3, 2001, at 6:39:57

Hi, I have ben on effexor for a year (I'm 20 this month), and have noticed over the past five months that I'm feeling worse and worse as time goes on, I am also experiencing alot of rage, I flip out, getting very angry and upset. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I went to my doctor and sh'e changed my diet, only slightly (reducing carbohydrates and increasing protein), and recommended counselling which I have done and happy to start up again, however, I have alot of trouble getting up and doing daily things, let alone living a balanced (exercise and healthy eating) lifestyle. I was hoping I could get some ideas on what other people have experienced? and if their drugs have weared off over time, adn caused additional rage?

hi Poppy,

i also experienced rage on Effexor. I became mean and bitchy, and was saying things i never before thought I was capable of. i didn't have to wait for several months for that though. It started on my third day on effexor and lasted for a full month. after that I discontinued the effexor. I managed to nearly destroy all my friendships and relationships with the colleagues. No other medication did this to me. It also made me deeply depressed, the worst in years. Not only had it thrown me back where it all begun, it made me experience depression in some novel way :( Although it was good to know what I am capable of, I decided that inferno is not a place for me to inhabit.

I wish you a happy upcoming birthday:)...

mila

All ADs have the potential to 'wear off'. Sounds like the Effexor isn't doing the job for you; were I you, I would be considering a change of medication. Effexor wiped the floor with me & the side-effects steadily worsened all the time.

Effexor is a v. effective drug but certainly ain't everyone's cup of tea!

J.

The doctors speak highly of adding Depakote to antidepressant regimens to get rid of rage and irritability in the Tips. I have added Depakote to my Pindolol/Remeron and it has worked well for that purpose.

Norepinepheron sensitive?

Yeah, I had some problems with anger after being on Effexor a while. I also had a similar reaction to Wellbutrin, but not classic SSRI's. Could it be a sensitivity to a norepinepheron increase?

After being on zoloft for four days I had a period of rage where I would be pissed off at anyone who talked to me. I have never been that irritable in my life, no matter what the circumstances. Fortunately, it only lasted an hour, and it wasn't as bad today (5th day), so hopefully it won't happen again.
