IS there any difference btwn Prozac and Sarafem?

Posted by gritslad on March 9, 2001, at 15:51:21

Is there any difference between Prozac and Sarafem? Some posts suggest so; others say there is not. My doctor seemed to think it was the same thing in a different color casing. If there are different ingredients what are they? I will say that my last round of Prozac was ineffective, but this course of Sarafem has been great.

From what I understand, Sarafem is Prozac remarketed for different problems.

I saw an ad on TV for Sarafem. It said the ingredient was fluoxetine hydrochloride, which is exactly Prozac. Same drug, different name, different purpose. It's a marketing tool to tap into new sales in a new market.

I think the dosage of Sarafem is 10 mg, one size fits all, but it is the same chemically as our beloved(???) Prozac

Indeed, exactly as Zyban and Wellbutrin. Identical and marketed for different purposes.
