Hi I have been on effexor xr for 2 years now. I was wandering if anyone out there has been taking it this long or for any length of time. If so does anyone have problems with night sweats or bad dreams.?

Hello, yes,Ive been on effexor xr 75mg for over two years and suffer with the same problems. What I usually do if it gets too much is I halve the dose for a week[one half rolled up into soft cheese]and it dramatically reduces the sweating and night terrors usually the withdrawal is more bearable than the bad dreams. It lasts for quite a while after when on 75mg.It works for me but may not work for anyone else.Good luck.

Hi,
Yes, I've been on Effexor for more than 3-1/2 years at 150 mg / day with two potentiating medications: methylphenidate (generic Ritalin) and Pindolol (generic Visken).
The combination of Pindolol with Effexor is no longer recommended by the manufacturers due to serious side effects in some individuals, so you would need to work very cautiously and closely with your doctor if together you chose to experiment with this combination. For me, the Pindolol smooths out the sleep and dream problems, which also makes the night sweats less problematic (in the sense that I still get a good night's sleep).
The downside of the use of Pindolol is that it limits the speed of one's heart, and therefore makes even fairly mild exertion seem strenuous. My wife and I were biking across the bridges towards the end of a day-ride in which I had gone a bit too far, and I wound up having to sit on the pavement for half an hour at the roadside waiting for my oxygen blood levels to come back up to the point that I could ride the rest of the way home.
As with all medication regimes for refractive depression, it takes some balancing and experimentation to find the right "mix" that will work for you. Be patient and perseverant.
Best wishes,
Mark H.

Mark,
this is a bit strange to me, also on pindolol & effexor xr, same dose.
don't have what you complain of ?
no sweats, much better than before the pindolol ?
exertion much better too.
e mail me & we can continue this discussion offboard.
sleep & dream stuff ... more or less normal ... occasional colorful dreams, nothing bizarre, like the first couple of weeks...
over all, good results... depression & anxiety well treated...

Yes, currently on 262.5 mg Effexor XR. No night sweats (had profuse sweating on the regular Effexor), and no bad dreams, either, also dreams are vivid for me on this and other ADs.
This is the end of the thread.
