Just wondering if anyone has heard of the effects Seroquel has on children and if it has been used in many places for anger episodes. I am currently treating a 10 year old boy who is on this drug and am wondering if anyone has ideas about its uses. I know it is in the class of antipsychotics but am wondering how that helps anger problems. Thanks for any help.

We have a 10yr old boy who is currently in a treatment center. Yesterday, they told us they want to try this med of him. The docs told us it can cause muscle stiffness- like they could have an episode where thier tougue sticks out of their mouth or thier eyes roll back in their head and they cant control it. Such symptoms are supposedly temporary while getting accustomed to the med. BUT, they also said it can cause permenant parlylsis is used for a long period of time, such as into adulthood.
It is a mood stablizer. It is supposed to keep the child from having extreme moods. Such as highs and lows- which could cause a child to act out aggressively I would suppose.
Our child doesnt act out violently- he waits until noone is watching and then will tear something up, or locks himself in his room, etc.- I would guess it would be for the same reason- just another way to let it out...
Hope this helps- I am new at this too, but just got this info from the docs yesterday...
